Museum of the Battle of Normandy (Bayeux)

After traveling by train to the historic town of Bayeux, as part of our overseas holiday, one of the things on my 'to do list' was to visit the Museum of the Battle of Normandy. It was an easy 30 minute walk from the centre of town and albeit a rather small museum, the items on display both outside and inside were nothing short of amazing. If you are ever in the region and have even a passing interest in WWII, then this is one museum that you should go and visit.

Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre - 'Just Jane'

As part of our overseas holiday we'd planned to visit a number of museums and as this Lancaster was a sister aircraft to the one that my father in-law had worked on (NX611), it was naturally on our 'to do' list. However, what occurred on our visit here was totally unexpected and could have been considered some form of divine intervention.

Unaware that the usual taxi runs occur every Tuesday and Thursday, it was with some surprise that being a Friday, we were informed that due to a cancellation the previous day that the Lancaster would now be doing it's taxi run on this day instead.

So to have the opportunity to hear four Merlin's being started and then running in unison was just amazing, and to then watch the Lancaster taxing around the airfield under its own power was a magical sight to behold. It was definitely one of the highlights of our holiday and an experience that we'll never forget.
