Tyabb Airshow

This is arguably one of the best Warbird airshows in Victoria and is held bi-annually at the beautiful Tyabb airfield, located on the Mornington Peninsula. Although it had rained in the week leading up to the event, on the actual day the weather was near perfect with just some overcast and a light breeze all day.

Both the general public and enthusiasts turned out in huge numbers and as the day progressed this made getting something to eat or drink a real challenge, as there were long queues at all of the catering outlets well into mid-afternoon, with many having already sold out well before then.

Despite some aircraft from further afield not making it due to the weather the lineup of Warbirds on display and included in the flying program was nothing short of spectacular. For me the real standouts were the Sopwith Snipe replica, F4U-5N Corsair and Grumman Avenger, which were all displayed to absolute perfection.

Blitzes & Bitzes - Part 1 (Traralgon)

Through a Facebook page that I follow I'd heard of a collection of Blitzes that were located in Traralgon just a few hours drive from my home. However, all inquiries in regards to their exact location went unanswered and the only tip-off I eventually got was that they were located on the main road near one of the townships motels.

So with the wife eager to do a road trip one day and happy to go anywhere we headed off for Traralgon. Upon entering the town we conducted a search along the main road and all of the motels, which initially proved to be fruitless. Undaunted we then headed out of the town, through the local industrial area and at the very last roundabout just before you leave town, stumbled across the vehicles parked in front of what could only be described as a rundown and disused motel.

After photographing the initial group of Blitzes I then noticed what appeared to be yet more vehicles parked at the back of the motel and as I am want to do I had to investigate. What I stumbled across was amazing array of vehicles scattered around the property with no particular theme or reason for them being there. With no one challenging me or appearing to live on the premises, I was able to photograph the vehicles at leisure making the journey to Traralgon all the more worthwhile.
